About the University

Bauhaus-Universität Weimar or simply Bauhaus Weimar, is a public university in the city of Weimar, Germany. Founded in 1860 as the Grand Ducal Saxon Art School, it was granted university status in 1910. In 1919, under the direction of Walter Gropius, the school was renamed the State Bauhaus, and received its current name in 1996. The university has approximately 4,000 students enrolled in its various programmes.

The university's faculty also included renowned artists and designers such as Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky and László Moholy-Nagy.
