About the University

The Technische Universität Dresden (TU Dresden), also known as Dresden University of Technology, is a public research university founded in 1828. With over 30,000 students it is one of the largest universities in Germany. Located in the vibrant city of Dresden, the university's main campus is situated just south of the city centre, offering a blend of historical and modern architecture spanning three distinct periods.

TU Dresden offers a wide range of academic programmes across 17 faculties and five schools, covering disciplines such as engineering, natural sciences, humanities, social sciences, and medicine. The university is particularly renowned for its strengths in areas such as biomedicine, bioengineering, information technology, microelectronics, materials science, energy, mobility, environment, and societal change.

TU Dresden has been recognised as one of eleven "Universities of Excellence" in Germany since 2012. The university consistently excels in research and innovation, and is the only university in eastern Germany to have been approved for a graduate school and research centre funded by the German Research Foundation. The university also boasts numerous clusters of excellence, including PoL (Physics of Life), ct.qmat (Complexity and Topology in Quantum Matter), and CeTI (Center for Tactile Internet with Human-in-the-Loop).

Its international reputation is reflected in its diverse student body, with approximately one-seventh of its students coming from abroad, primarily from Europe and Asia. The university's dedication to sustainability, accessibility, and innovation is evident in initiatives such as the "Campus Navigator," an interactive orientation system, and its status as a certified family-friendly university since 2007.
