About the University
The University of Tübingen, officially known as the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, is a renowned public research university. Founded in 1477, it is one of the oldest universities in Germany, and today hosts around 30,000 students. It is located in the city of Tübingen in the southern German state of Baden-Württemberg. The university campus is integrated into the picturesque historic city center which is famous for both its medieval and modern architecture. The campus environment is further enriched by the nearby Neckar River and the Swabian Alb hills, providing a unique urban and natural surrounding.
Eberhard Karls University of Tübinge offers a wide range of academic programmes in a variety of disciplines, including the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, medicine, law and economics. It is particularly renowned for its specialist programmes and research strengths in fields such as neuroscience, plant biology, archaeology, philosophy, theology and artificial intelligence. One of the unique aspects of the University of Tübingen are its notable alumni that include neuropathologist Alois Alzheimer, and philosopher Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel.
